Conditions

Under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 a licence issued by the Secretary of State is required before any person may establish or use any station for wireless telegraphy or install or use any apparatus for wireless telegraphy in the UK and UK territorial waters.

For an Amateur Radio Licence you must:

• have passed both parts of the Radio Amateurs' Examination (RAE).

For a Class A/B licence you must:

• have additionally passed the 5 words per minute Amateur Radio Morse Test.

For a Class A licence you must:

• have additionally passed the 12 words per minute Amateur Radio Morse Test.

Club licence applications
For a club licence:

1. the name shown on the application form (at 1) should be that of the officer who will be responsible for the station (the Licence Holder) who,
• if the club licence is to be Class A, must hold a Class A Amateur Radio Licence, or
• if the club licence is to be Class A/B, must hold a Class A/B or a Class A Amateur Radio Licence, or
• if the club licence is to be Class B, must hold any class of Full Amateur Radio Licence.
  
  
2. the club must have a minimum of three suitably licensed members.
   
   
3. the Chairman, Secretary and treasurer (or similar officers) of the club must be listed and identified.
   
   
4. the Main Station Address, given overleaf, should be the normal operating address of the club excluding the club title.
   
   
5. when applying for a Club licence you must enclose a list of names and callsigns of licensed club members. If the club has a large membership, enclose the names and callsigns of ten licensed members.

Renewal payments

Please note that Licences are free to the under 21's and for those aged 75 years and over from 1 April 2001. If you are under 21 or 75 or over at the time of expiry, you only need to sign and return the Remittance Advice Note to indicate that you wish to continue.

How to pay

Please enclose a cheque or Postal Order for the fee valid at the time of application made payable to Radio Licensing Centre and crossed "A/CPayee". Please print your name on the reverse of your cheque or postal order. Please do not send cash. If you wish to pay by credit/debit card please provide the following details:

The following cards are currently accepted: Mastercard, Visa, Switch, Visa Delta.
Please do not send your card.

Future renewal payments.

For future renewals you have an option of automatic payment made by Direct Debit Instruction or by a Standing Order with your bank or building society. Paying by Direct Debit means you will not have to amend your Instruction whenever there is a change in the licence fee. If you wish to pay by either method please tick the appropriate box on the form.

Foreign applications

Please enclose a Eurocheque for the valid fee in Sterling made payable to Subscription Services Limited and crossed "A/C Payee ".

and for an "A/B" Licence only;

• 5 words per minute Amateur Radio Morse Test result slip (originals only, photo-copies are not acceptable) which will be returned to you

and for a Club Licence;

• the information requested in Club Licence Applications.

Requesting a callsign

If you would like to request a particular callsign in the current series of callsigns, you may do so at the callsign section overleaf. Before filling this in, you should telephone RLC to check that the callsign is available. The callsign will only be issued to you once your full application is received by them and callsigns are issued on a "first come first served" basis. Please note that if you previously held a callsign, this will be re-issued to you and you will not be able to request another callsign.

The information given on this form is subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1984 and will be used in accordance with the appropriate entry attributed to the Radiocommunications Agency in the register of Date users and Computer Bureaux.
