Notes are available from the RA library or website (www.radio.gov.uk/busunit/ftslu/home/ftsluindex.htm).
- Applications can be made for a licence for any Fixed Terrestrial (point-to-point)
Links that are to be deployed in any geographical areas administered by RA.
This may be for either a single link application or a batch application. Batch
sizes are limited to 20 single links.
- You can apply for a new batch
application on the basis of two situations which are:
- Assigned individually (all single link assignments pass and fail on
equal merit); or
- Assigned collectively (a single link assignment failure results in
a complete failed batch).
- It is our aim to meet the following
Quality of Service targets:
- For Category A assignments: 58 GHz Fixed Links in unco-ordinated
bands; i.e. licences that involve no frequency assignment, site clearance
or international co-ordination: 100% of licence applications to be
processed and dispatched within five working days.
- For Category C assignments in co-ordinated bands: Fixed Links
(other than 58 GHz); i.e. licences that require frequency assignment and
site clearance and/or international coordination: 90% of licence applications
to be processed and dispatched within 40 working days and the remainder
processed and dispatched within 60 working days, or an explanation of
the delay provided to the applicant.
- It is a requirement of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 that no radio equipment
shall be installed or used in the UK, except under the authority of a licence
granted (unless it is licence exempted) by the Secretary of State. It is a
condition of such a licence that the performance of the equipment must meet
the minimum requirements specified in the RA Radio Interface Requirement 2000.
This details the permitted equipment and antenna options within the frequency
bands administered by RA.
- The Wireless Telegraphy (Licence Charges) Regulations set out the fees
for licences to use radio equipment issued under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts.
- Guidance on the applicability of a Telecommunications Act Licence should
be sought from the Communications and Information Industries Directorate (CII),
