Following the Government's decision to allow the provision of public services in the 2.4 GHz licence-exempt band (announced in Press Notice P/2002/345 issued 10 June 2002), the Spectrum Management Advisory Group (SMAG) hosted a consultation event on 20 June 2002 at the Institution for Mechanical Engineers. The event was chaired by Dr John Forrest, the Chairman of SMAG and presentations were made by the Radiocommunications Agency and OFTEL.

Although a Wireless Telegraphy Act Licence will no longer be required
for such operation, operators wishing to deliver a commercial telecommunications
service in the 2.4GHz band should contact CII for advice and guidance
on any Telecommunications Act obligations |
