6000th Foundation Licence issued

*

The Agency is delighted to announce that just before Christmas, the 6000th Foundation licence has been issued. Of those 6000 over 3100 are new to Amateur Radio. This represents a substantial increase in the number of amateurs and a very welcome change to what was a slow downward trend. It is very much hoped that these new amateurs will move on to take the Intermediate licence which will be available in the new year.

The pilot scheme is running now and a second phase pilot is planned for March, after which a monthly exam will be available. The intention is to move to an on-demand facility from registered centres as soon as practicable. At present the Radio Society of Great Britain is providing the administrative arrangements for the examinations and will be able to advise on examination facilities following the Christmas closure.

It remains for the Agency to congratulate all the new amateurs, to thank all the clubs and tutors for providing the facilities and hard work to make this outstanding result possible and to wish all amateurs a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
