Licensing & Co-ordination |
1.
Satellite Earth Station Licensing
2. Satellite Operator's
Performance Requirements
Fixed Satellite Service Licence applications are available for
VSAT Hubs which operate within a star network require permanent earth station licences.
Licences are currently classified according to the type of service. The issue of a licence for satellite equipment generally requires procedures of frequency co-ordination, site clearance and and/or international co-ordination. Such procedures fall within a category C licence requirement, and the majority (90%) of category C licence applications will be processed and dispatched within 40 working days, and the remainder processed within 60 working days.
The agency advises against the operation of SES equipment from roof-top sites as this adds complexity to the co-ordination procedure.
UK licence application procedure requires that an individual is appointed as a signatory responsible for the operation of the SES equipment. The signatory must attest that the equipment being used is compliant with the satellite operators performance requirements.
Compliance with satellite operator performance requirements is therefore considered to be an essential requirement for licensing purposes in the UK.
