Spike Broadband Systems - Response to the Consultation Document: 3.4 and 10 GHz: Scenarios For Spectrum Packaging and Delivery |
Dear Mr. Jones,
As as a response to the paper dscribing the 5 scenario's for the 3.4 GHz and
the 10 GHz band allocations, we would like to provide you with the following
comment:
Providing backhaul of 2G and certainly 3G (UMTS) base stations is an important
upcoming subject.
Some Point to Multipoint systems on the market, operating in the 3.4 GHz band,
like for instance the Spike Broadband Systems solution, are a perfect solution
for this matter. They can provide a combination of a very long reach (e.g. large
backhaul cells) together with very high capacities in order to provide many
dedicated E1 / IP links to different 2G or UMTS base stations in those backhaul
cells. That way, backhauling of UMTS base stations is a perfect application
within the 3.4GHz band which offers an extremely efficient use of the available
frequency spectrum. Also, in parallel, the same frequency band can be used for
FWA services as an overlay.
Therefore we would recommend for the 3.4 GHz band to certainly allow Scenario
5, possibly combined with other scenario's (Backhaul and FWA in parallel).
Please do not hesitate to contact me in case you have further questions.
Please confirm receipt of this message.
Thank you in advance.
