The Radio Technology and Compatibility Group at Whyteleafe provides the Agency with a flexible, efficient and competent investigation facility. It offers technical solutions to assist RA Business Units in meeting their business needs, mainly in determining the compatibility issues between emerging and existing radio systems. In addition to providing advanced computer simulations of radio networks, project work is undertaken involving the use of a wide range of complex and advanced test equipment covering the frequency range 9kHz to 140GHz. |

This includes frequency agile signal simulators (FASS), signal processing worksystems (SPW), gigahertz transverse electromagnetic (GTEM) Cells, vector and spectrum analysers. Use is also made of the environmental and field test facilities. The Group's investigations thus extend the theoretical work carried out by headquarters engineers.
They complement the work of Baldock and some of the longer-term research work carried out by external organisations.
Other work includes supporting UK spectrum management policies, through for example, establishing improved frequency assignment methods and supporting the CSE field force.

Key present and future strategies to achieve the above are: |
becoming a centre of technical excellence within RA; |
assisting the Agency in the decision making process on spectrum planning and management; |
providing a practical training facility for Agency engineers including GTEs; |
providing a service that is responsive, supportive, competent, informed, on time, conclusive, offering value for money and therefore encouraging customers to return; |
knowing the customers; becoming aware of their objectives and of market trends, thereby improving RTCG's image with customers and thus ultimately, the image of RA. |
