Scope of Document

This document presents the Final Report of a study on “Re-examination of the protection requirements for the Radio Astronomy Service (RAS) in light of Broadband Fixed Wireless Access (BFWA) multimedia systems proposed for the 42.5 - 43.5 GHz frequency band”. The study has been conducted by Transfinite Systems Ltd (TSL) on behalf of the Radiocommunications Agency (RA) under contract AY3873.

Objective and Approach of Study

The objective of this study was to determine the extent to which BFWA systems could share the 42.5 - 43.5 GHz band with the RAS, without placing undue constraints on either service. The starting point for the study was the assumptions and conclusions contained in ERC Report 36 [1], which indicates that a coordination distance of 50 km would be sufficient to protect the RAS.
