Geraint Talfan Davies - Member of the Radio Authority
Geraint Talfan Davies was appointed a Member of the Radio Authority, with special responsibility for Wales, on 2 March 2001 for a three year period.

Geraint has spent over thirty years in the newspaper and broadcasting industries. Most recently, he was Controller of BBC Wales, from 1990 to 2000, where he was responsible for all BBC broadcast and online operations in Wales.


Geraint started his career in newspapers as a graduate trainee with Thomson Regional Newspapers at the Western Mail in 1966. He became Welsh Affairs Correspondent in 1969, before moving to The Journal (Newcastle upon Tyne) in 1971. He spent a year with The Times in London, before returning to the Western Mail as Assistant Editor in 1974.

He moved into broadcasting in 1978 as Head of News and Current Affairs at HTV Wales, becoming Assistant Controller of Programmes in 1982. In 1987 he returned to Newcastle as Director of Programmes of Tyne Tees Television plc, and moved back to Cardiff in 1990 as Controller, BBC Wales.

He is currently a non-executive director of Welsh Water company Glas Cymru Ltd, Chair of the Institute of Welsh Affairs, Chair of Welsh National Opera and Cardiff Bay Arts Trust, and a Governor of the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

Geraint graduated from Oxford University in 1966 with a degree in Modern History. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Glamorgan in 1996, and Honorary Fellowships at the Royal Institute of British Architects and the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2000. He is married with three grown up sons and lives in Cardiff.
