Kate O'Rourke - Member of the Radio Authority

Kate O'Rourke was appointed a Member of the Radio Authority for four years from 1 January 2000.

Kate is a solicitor specialising in intellectual property law at the City of London law firm, Dechert. Trained in Law in Australia, she has worked as a solicitor in New South Wales and England and as a researcher for the Australian Trade Commission in New York.

Kate is a Member of the Board of London Arts, is a member of the London Regional Committee of Awards 4 All, is a Director and Trustee of 'Rock the Vote', the charity to encourage greater involvement in democracy by people aged 18-25, and has been Vice Chair of Governors at City & Islington Further Education College since 1996.

Within the last five years she has served as Chair of 'Make Votes Count', a cross-party organisations supporting reform of the voting system, as Assistant Secretary of the Society of Labour Lawyers and as Treasurer of the Socialist Societies. She holds no other public appointments.

Kate lives in North London with her partner, Dr Jonathan Scott, a consultant psychiatrist in Ealing, and their young son, Ben. One of the key reasons why Kate loves London is the range of vibrant and diverse cultural activities available, and the fact that restaurants in Islington now cater for children.
