Sheila Hewitt was appointed a Member of the Radio Authority for five years from December 1998.  Her term has recently been extended to end on 31 December 2003.

Born in Pakistan, Sheila is a graduate of the London School of Economics.  Her early career was in international banking in the City.  Following that she has been serving as a magistrate and on the Immigration Appeals Tribunal, and the Competition Commission Appeals Tribunal.  She is currently on the Legal Aid Board and is Regional Chairman for their Eastern and South Eastern Areas.

From 1991-1998, Sheila Hewitt was a member of the Advertising Standards Authority.

 Sheila is married to a consulting actuary, has two teenage sons and lives in Epsom, Surrey.  Her interests include mountain trekking, tennis and the theatre.
