Job Title: Programming & Advertising Officer (Part-time)

Job Purpose: To assist in the award process of non-BBC, UK radio licences as required and in the subsequent regulation of all radio licensees.

Duties:

  • Briefs Authority Members and relevant staff (verbally and/or in writing as required by the Director of Development) on all programme, advertising, sponsorship and regulatory aspects of proposals made by radio licence applicants and the performance of radio licensees.
  • Monitors and generally keeps in touch with the programming performance and the general development of a number of Radio Authority licensees as directed by the Deputy Director of Programming and Advertising.
  • Monitors and generally keeps in touch with the advertising and sponsorship performance of Radio Authority licensees. Keeps abreast of forthcoming legislation/regulations and assists in informing radio licensees of amendments in advertising policy.
  • Ensures the efficient compilation and maintenance of promises of performance of allotted licensees and to work to maximise compliance.
  • Maintains and updates database of licensees and complaints.
  • Arranges and/or attends meetings with licensees and others (both in and away from the Authority's Headquarters) regarding all aspects of non-BBC radio regulation.
  • Speaks at business and public meetings explaining and/or discussing Radio Authority views and policy on regulation matters as required.
  • Investigates and answers queries and complaints regarding licensees' programming and advertising output.
  • Advises colleagues and/or Members on the seriousness of complaints and any regulatory action required.
  • Monitors recorded and/or live examples of radio stations' programming, advertising and sponsorship output and presents written and/or verbal reports as required.
  • Prepares and from time to time updates Radio Authority regulatory codes and guidelines, consulting with other bodies and persons as necessary and as directed by the Deputy Director of Programming & Advertising.
  • Advises radio stations, sales houses and advertising agencies on advertising and sponsorship issues as required.
  • Is responsible for particular aspects of non-BBC radio regulation and programme development (for example, training or awards) as directed by the Deputy Director of Programming and Advertising.
  • Assists generally in the Radio Authority's regulatory functions as required.
