FM the UK's first Independent National Radio station
(INR1), began broadcasting a classical music service in September 1992.
In April 1993, Virgin
1215 (INR2) went on-air with a rock music service. In
February 1995, Talk Radio (INR3) began broadcasting a speech-based service.
Talk Radio re-launched as talkSPORT
in January 2000 with a sports-focused
service. In October 1994 the Authority awarded its first 'additional
service' licence to the sole applicant, Differential Corrections Inc.
(DCI), transmitting as Focus FM. Additional Services make use of the spare
capacity in an existing channel which is not used by the programme service.
DCI is utilising the RDS (Radio Data System) sub-carrier of the INR1 service
broadcasting on the FM (VHF) waveband. This service can only be received
through subscription. |
