The Radio Authority
licenses and regulates independent radio in accordance with the statutory requirements of the Broadcasting Acts 1990 and 1996.

It plans frequencies, awards licenses, regulates programming and radio advertising, and supervises the radio ownership system.

The Authority takes an active role in the development of policies which affect the independent radio industry and its listeners, in accordance with its statutory remit to ensure the provision of high quality services offering a wide listening choice.
