Digital television transmitter details

16 Mai 2014

This page contains details of the current and planned future technical parameters for the UK’s digital terrestrial television transmitter (DTT) network.

The information is in spreadsheet format and is intended for ease of download and further manipulation, rather than for presentation.

Current digital television transmitter network

Current frequency data (Microsoft Excel Workbook)

Alternatively, the data contained in the Excel file above is available in CSV format below:

DSO multiplexes (CSV) Contains data on the six national digital switchover (DSO) multiplexes: PSB1, PSB2, PSB3, COM4, COM5 & COM6.

Non-DSO multiplexes (CSV) Contains data on non-DSO multiplexes: COM7, COM8, the Local TV multiplex (LTVMux), the Northern Ireland Multiplex (NIMux), and Geographic Interleaved Multiplexes (GIMux).

Post-700 MHz Clearance transmitter network

Post-700 MHz Clearance spreadsheet (XLSX, 279.6 KB)

The Post-700 MHz Clearance spreadsheet above provides information on the frequencies that the DTT network will move to as part of the 700 MHz Clearance programme. The information is subject to change as detailed regional plans are finalised.

This spreadsheet reflects the planned situation at the completion of the 700 MHz Clearance programme, and does not include temporary ‘transitional’ frequency changes which will occur at some transmitters during the programme. Information on transitional changes, as well as detailed programme timetables, will be released by Digital UK as the programme progresses.

The post-700 MHz spreadsheet contains yellow highlighting showing the main changes compared to the pre-clearance network. We have also taken the opportunity to update other aspects of the data based on the latest available information, so some small variations (such as grid references, aerial heights, and transmitter groupings) can be expected compared to the current frequency data spreadsheet.

A glossary containing explanations of the column headings is provided below.

This data will be updated from time-to-time to correct any errors and to reflect future changes to the networks. Please notify significant errors or omissions by email to broadcast.technical@ofcom.org.uk

Glossary

ITV Region - DSO: The licensed Channel 3 (ITV, STV or UTV) region of the site, used in the digital switchover (DSO) programme.

ITV Regional News Service: The Channel 3 (ITV, STV or UTV) regional or sub-regional service news service carried by this transmitter.

BBC Region: The BBC regional or sub-regional service carried by this transmitter.

Transmitter Group (DSO): A group of sites comprising a Primary Transmitter and its dependent relays.

Site Number (DSO): Reference number for the site.

Site Name: The transmitter site name. In some cases this name may not exactly match the site name used in other sources of DTT transmitter information (see Alternative Form below)

Alternative Form: In cases where other sources of transmitter information (for example international coordination agreements) contain site names which differ in spelling or punctuation from the Site Name above, the alternative form(s) are provided here. The list of Alternative Forms is not exhaustive.

Primary Transmitter? Indicates whether the site is the Primary Transmitter within its DSO Transmitter Group: 1 = Yes; 0= No.

GBNGR: Alpha-numeric Ordnance Survey (GB) National Grid Reference for the site.
GBNGRX / GBNGRY: Numeric Ordnance Survey (GB) National Grid Reference Easting / Northing for the site.

IrishGR: Alpha-numeric Irish Grid Reference for sites situated in Northern Ireland, prefixed by ‘I'. Locations for sites in Northern Ireland are also provided as extended GB National Grid References.

IrishGRX / IrishGRY: Numeric Irish Grid Reference Easting / Northing for sites situated in Northern Ireland.

Site Height: The terrain height of the transmitter location in metres above ordnance datum (mean sea level)

For each site or multiplex the following data is provided

(Average) Antenna Height: The (mean) height of the antenna/s above ground level (AGL).

Channel: The UHF channel of the service. The centre frequency, Fc (in Megahertz) of the multiplex can be calculated using Fc=8n+306, where n is the UHF channel number.

Offset: A + or - indicates that the frequency is offset by +0.167MHz or -0.167MHz with respect to the channel centre.

ERP: The Effective Radiated Power of the multiplex, in kilowatts (kW)

Aerial Group: Suggested aerial group for reception of the 3 PSB multiplexes (and the 3 COM multiplexes, where broadcast) from this transmitter. The suggested aerial group does not take other co-sited services into account.

Aerial GroupChannels Colour Code
A 21-37 Red
B 35-53 Yellow
C/D 48-68 Green
E 35-68 Brown
K 21-48 Grey
T 21-60White
W 21-68 Black

Polarisation: Indicates whether the multiplexes from this site are horizontally (H) or vertically (V) polarised.
