White space devices may only operate in the UHF band in the UK in accordance with operational parameters provided by a database (WSDB) which is operated by an organisation listed in (Schedule 1 of the Wireless Telegraphy (White Space Devices) (Exemption) Regulations 2015).
Ofcom has signed contracts with seven database operators with a view to these operators providing database services to white space devices in the UK.
As of December 2015, four database operators had qualified to provide database services in the UK and are listed in the Regulations as permitted to operate databases from which white space devices may obtain operational parameters:
The Discoverable List of WSDBs currently providing WSDB Services, which is accessible to white space devices as an xml file, is available at: https://tvws-databases.ofcom.org.uk/. The four qualified database operators will be added to the Discoverable List once they have informed Ofcom that they are ready to start providing WSDB Services to devices.
The list currently also includes pilot databases which were qualified by Ofcom to provide WSDB services for the White Space Pilot. The Pilot officially closes on 31 January 2016 and pilot databases will be removed from the list at this time.
