Open Golf Championship 2016
Ofcom has granted consent for Sky's live coverage of the Open Golf Championship 2016. The Open Golf Championship is a Group B listed event. This means that a non-qualifying service may acquire exclusive rights to live coverage, provided adequate provision has been made for secondary coverage by a qualifying service.
The BBC has acquired the rights to show TV highlights of the Open Golf Championship 2016 on its qualifying services, as well as rights to live national radio coverage, which satisfy the requirements of paragraphs 1.18 and 1.19 of the Code. Ofcom’s consent for Sky’s coverage is therefore given automatically in accordance with paragraph 1.21 of the Code.
The rules on listed events, including the criteria which broadcasters must meet in order to obtain consent, are set out in the Code on Sports and Other Listed and Designated Events.
