Consultation: Advertisement of a national radio Additional Services licence
- Start: 07 September 2021
- Status: Open
- End: 06 October 2021
This consultation relates to aspects of a new Additional Services licence for which Ofcom intends to invite applications later in 2021.
Additional Services are services which use spare capacity within the signals carrying radio services on relevant frequencies, for example to transmit data. There is currently one Additional Service licence. It is held by INRIX UK Limited and is used to transmit traffic and road travel information to in-car navigation devices, using spare capacity on the national FM frequencies used to broadcast Classic FM. That licence is due to expire early in 2022.
This consultation seeks stakeholder views on certain aspects of the licence to be advertised, including the duration of the licence, the capacity to be made available under the licence, and the level of payment related to the licence. The consultation will close on 6 October.
