Richard Davis to join Ofcom as Chief Data Officer

Richard Davis

Ofcom is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Davis as our new Chief Data Officer.

Richard joins Ofcom from the Lloyds Banking Group, where he has worked for 11 years and most recently as Head of Innovation. He is a world leader in advanced analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence – bringing extensive experience of using big data to inform decision-making.

In his time at Lloyds Bank, Richard established a community of data scientists and developed close links with academic and research institutions to identify best practice.

Passionate about helping people into careers in data, Richard has worked with renowned universities and tech start-ups to support the next generation of data scientists. He has also partnered with organisations such as Women in Data and Tech She Can, to encourage more women into the world of data.

We’re delighted to welcome Richard to Ofcom to lead our growing team of data and machine learning experts. Data use is accelerating and helping to power innovative new services. So it’s vital we have the expertise to fully understand how big data can help us deliver better outcomes for the UK – from ensuring people have a choice of affordable high-quality services, to keeping them safe online. Richard brings exactly that and we’re looking forward to him coming on board.

Sachin Jogia, Ofcom’s Chief Technology Officer

It‘s an honour to be joining Ofcom at a time when the use of data is growing exponentially – whether it's to learn more about what the public want from their broadcasting services, or to understand what tools work in protecting people online. And with companies increasingly using more advanced technologies like machine learning to draw insights from that data, it’s important Ofcom continues to build its own data capability. I’m really looking forward to playing my part and getting started in the role.

Richard Davis

Richard will join Ofcom’s Technology, Data and Innovation Group and will begin his role in August 2022.
