Joint statement: Working with other regulators to protect children online
This joint statement publicly announces the International Working Group on Age Verification, of which Ofcom is a founding member alongside Autorité de régulation de la communication audiovisuelle et numérique (Arcom), the Conseil Superieur de l’Audiovisuel (CSA), the Cyprus Radiotelevision Authority (CRTA) and Direktorenkonferenz der Landesmedienanstalten (DLM).
The International Working Group has been established to help the respective members ensure that video-sharing platforms (VSPs) under their jurisdiction that have videos containing restricted material take their obligation to protect under-18s seriously, and implement robust access control measures to protect them from accessing harmful content on their services.
We recognise that online platforms are global in nature and can operate across multiple jurisdictions. This statement sets out details of our shared commitment to meeting the challenges of regulation in the 21st century.
