In 2023, Ofcom and leading UK telecoms and technology organisations came together to launch a sector-wide pledge to help more women build rewarding careers in telecoms. The pledge focused on attracting, retaining and promoting women in technical roles, reinforcing and complementing broader diversity and inclusion efforts across the sector.
Since then, signatories have collaborated closely to share best practice, drive meaningful initiatives within their organisations, and foster more inclusive workplace cultures. Together, we have also championed careers in telecoms and technology through events and outreach activities, highlighting the achievements of women in technical and leadership roles and inspiring the next generation of talent.
Since the pledge was launched, a number of significant industry and government initiatives have emerged to advance diversity in technology, most notably the Government's Women in Tech Taskforce. Against this backdrop, we believe this is the right moment for the pledge to evolve. By aligning our efforts with the ambitions of the Taskforce, signatories can help amplify impact, contribute to a coordinated national approach, and support lasting progress towards greater female representation across the technology sector.

The pledge in full
- We are committed to increasing the senior representation of women in technology-based roles in the telecoms sector over the next three years; and to increase the overall representation of women in our sector.
- We will invest our efforts in attracting and retaining women in our organisations, creating inclusive environments for them to excel and be their best.
- As an industry we will come together annually to share good practice and showcase, to the outside world, our talented women in technology in the telecoms sector.
- We will publish information on the impact our initiatives have made on our collective ambitions as well as against the diversity and inclusion strategies of our respective organisations. We aim to publish information on our initiatives, so we may inspire others in the sector.
