Ofcom is consulting on a new BBC Online Material Code and accompanying Procedures.
Further to the DCMS Mid-Term Review of the BBC’s Charter in 2024 and resulting updates to the BBC Framework Agreement in December 2025, Ofcom is consulting on a new BBC Online Material Code and accompanying Procedures which will apply to online material on the BBC’s UK public services.
The proposed new BBC Online Material Code will apply to content provided as part of UK Public Services by the BBC online and intended for users in the UK. This includes content included on BBC news and sports websites, BBC apps on smartphones, television or other devices, any BBC social media account (including reposts by a BBC social media account including that of any individual working for the BBC) and BBC educational and learning resources. “Content” includes written text and still or moving images, with or without sound, and content consisting of sound only.
