Ofcom has commissioned a survey among employees responsible for online safety in 125 micro, small, medium, and large online services that support user-to-user interactions, allow users to access, post, or share pornographic content, or function as search engines, in order to explore how regulated services are responding to the Act.
The survey was supplemented by a small number of qualitative interviews. The findings of the research cover services’ awareness and attitudes towards the Act, implementation of required duties and the costs and barriers associated with compliance, as well as the systems and processes they currently have in place.
The findings provide insight into the experiences and perspectives of a diverse range of services but should not be interpreted as statistically representative of the wider population of online services in scope of the Act, nor can levels of compliance with specific measures be determined.
