This page provides an overview of, and links to, the findings from Ofcom's recent research on the online advertising ecosystem. The research was conducted to help inform our understanding of online advertising and supported the development of the draft Fraudulent Advertising Codes of Practice.

This report details research conducted by Ofcom’s Behavioural Insight Hub to examine how platform design within advertising functionalities influences user (including advertiser) behaviour and the risks associated with fraudulent advertising through a behavioural audit.

We are publishing our proposals for what Category 1 and Category 2A services should do to tackle fraudulent advertising in line with their duties under the Act.

Deepfakes are audio-visual content that has been generated or manipulated using AI, and that misrepresents someone or something. New generative AI tools allow users to create wholly new content that can be life-like and make it significantly easier for anyone with modest technical skill to create deepfakes.
