Statement: Expanding access to the 6 GHz band for commercial mobile and Wi-Fi services

In this consultation we set out our proposed approach to authorising Wi-Fi and mobile services in the 6 GHz band. This includes a proposal to authorise standard power Wi-Fi in Lower 6 GHz under the control of an AFC database (subject to industry demand), and a proposal to authorise low power indoor Wi-Fi in Upper 6 GHz, with mobile coming into the Upper 6 GHz band at a later stage.

This statement sets out the decisions we have made to enable the licence-exempt use of higher power Wi-Fi in the 6 GHz band under Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) control. It sets out our final decisions on the registration process, conditions and restrictions applicable to AFC service providers, and the technical requirements for licence-exempt Wi-Fi devices operating under AFC control.
