Ofcom appoints Phil Henfrey as Wales Director

Ofcom has today announced the appointment of Phil Henfrey as its Director, Wales.

Phil was brought up in Ruabon in North Wales and has been a prominent name in Welsh journalism and broadcasting for 34 years.

He joins from ITV, where he is the Head of ITV Cymru Wales.The team he currently leads produces 278 hours a year of public service news and current affairs programming about Wales for ITV Wales, together with programmes and digital content commissioned from ITV Network, S4C & BBC Wales. He is part of ITV plc’s Senior Leadership Team and is also a Non-Executive Board Member of Creative Wales, the Welsh Government agency that supports the Creative Industries in Wales. He lives at the foot of the Rhondda Valley with his partner and their four children.

As Ofcom’s Wales Director, Phil will be responsible for all aspects of the organisation’s work in Wales. Together with colleagues across Ofcom, he will help to ensure that we are fully effective in delivering our objectives and will work closely with stakeholders throughout Wales.

I’m excited to be joining Ofcom and its talented team in Wales as Wales Director. Anyone who knows me will know I am passionate about Wales and the vital role communications plays within it.

Ofcom’s independence and its connection to the people it serves are two of its great strengths, and I am looking forward to working with the team at Ofcom and all stakeholders in Wales to help fulfil Ofcom’s mission to make communications work for everyone.
