Radio Authority renews 1458 Big AM's Manchester Licence
The Radio Authority has today (16 May) announced that it has granted the application by 1458 Lite AM Ltd., broadcasting as 1458 Big AM, for renewal of its analogue Independent Local Radio licence on the AM (medium wave) band for the Manchester area. The renewed licence will run for a further period of eight years, from 20 June 2001 until 19 June 2009.
Under statutory provisions introduced in the 1996 broadcasting legislation (inserted as section 104A into the Broadcasting Act 1990), a local licence holder is entitled to apply for an automatic renewal of its licence, in the event that it is providing (or is committed to provide) a programme service on a 'relevant' digital radio multiplex. 1458 Lite AM Ltd. (1458 Big AM) is the provider of a digital sound programme service on the Manchester multiplex, which is 'relevant' in relation to the coverage of its analogue licence. The Authority is satisfied that the application for licence renewal complies with the statutory requirements. The conditions of the company's renewed local licence will require it to do all it can to ensure the continued provision of the digital service.
