The following multiplex variations were agreed during this period:

Removal of Street Sounds Radio – An adult alternative music station with particular appeal to 35 to 70-year-olds, playing primarily music of black origin with news and information for the Essex region.

Essex

Addition of Hits Radio (Cumbria) – A service offering a broard range of hits from current and non-current chart music. The station will appeal to a broad 15 - 44 adult audience and include entertainment news and features relevant to the target audience.

Cumbria

Removal of Greatest Hits Radio (UK) – A classic hits service aimed primarily at the over 40s.

Addition of Nation 80s – A service playing predominately music from the 1980s.

North East Wales and West Cheshire

Removal of Countryline Radio – A music-led service playing tracks from a broad range of country music artists.

Addition of Heat Radio – A predominantly music based radio station which keeps the listener up to speed on all the celebrity gossip and news. The music style will be bright, contemporary and popular, fast paced and upbeat with a mix of cool new and classic pop. The target audience is 18-34 year old women. There will be a minimum of 10% speech during daytime hours.

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Tayside

Removal of Greatest Hits Radio (UK) – A classic hits service aimed primarily at the over-40s.

Removal of Waves Radio – A simulcast of Waves Radio, Ofcom licence AL000209: A broad music, locally oriented information service for all adults in the Peterhead area.

Aberdeen

Each station has as part of its licence, a ‘Format’ which outlines what the essential nature of the service is and details any specific expectations of that service.

Any changes to a Format can only be made by following the correct procedure and with the appropriate permission from Ofcom.

Analogue community radio

Community Radio Fund

Ofcom has appointed a Non-Executive Chair, Mark Jones, to the Community Radio Fund Panel. Details of membership and biographies can be found on the Community Radio Fund Panel page.

Ofcom would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing chair Wendy Pilmer, who joined the Panel in 2012 and was appointed Chair in 2014, for her service and dedication to the sector. We wish Wendy all the best in her future endeavours.
