News Gathering

09 Chwefror 2015

For certain types of programme making and entertainment applications it is not always practicable to apply for frequency assignments as needed. Activities such as news reporting are often spontaneous and regularly require radio systems to be operational at short notice from unpredictable locations.

Wide Area assignments are designed to meet these unique demands. They allow day-to-day use of a frequency assignment within an agreed area without the need to seek further clearance from PMSE on each occasion.

As there is only a limited pool of spectrum available for all users and because these assignments can not easily be shared with others, each request must be carefully considered. PMSE will only be able to agree to Area assignments for programme links and their associated talkback communications facilities which satisfy the following requirements:

Qualifying Requirements

  • Frequencies would otherwise be frequently and necessarily requested at less than 24 hours notice.
  • Programme links will be used in conjunction with permanent facilities such as a fixed reception point or permanent transmitter site (except where the mobile equipment is a transportable satellite uplink).
  • The extent of the proposed area of operations can be clearly defined.
  • Reasonable coverage throughout the proposed area of operations can be demonstrated.
  • A single operational point of contact will be available at all times when the assignment could be used.

Availability

We strongly recommend that users do not purchase equipment until an application to use a frequency has been processed as there are NO frequencies available in certain parts of the country and it may not be possible for PMSE to issue a licence.

If you meet these requirements, download an application form.
